Meet Your Instructor
Professor Marie Huntsinger has nearly fifteen years of experience working in higher education at both the instructional and student services levels. She earned her Associate of Arts from Chandler-Gilbert Community College in 2006, where she discovered her passion for the social sciences. She earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in sociology from Arizona State University in 2008 and 2012, respectively. Marie has a passion for seeing students succeed and inspiring their sociological imaginations both inside and outside the classroom.
She started teaching at the Maricopa Community Colleges as an adjunct professor in 2012 and has been teaching full-time as a residential sociology faculty member since 2018. Prior to becoming full-time faculty, Professor Huntsinger worked in the academic advising office at GateWay Community College, assisting students develop, chart, and fulfill their educational and career paths. Ms. Huntsinger currently teaches Sociology of Family and Relationships, Sociology Through Film, Gender and Society, and Introduction to Sociology and has experience teaching face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses. When she is not teaching students or dreaming up fun and informative lesson plans, she is advising the One Voice LGBT+ advocacy and awareness club at Chandler-Gilbert Community College, or training her dog, Peanut, not to judge others on breed, dog-years, or other socioeconomic factors like annual milkbone income. Her scholarly interests include gender socialization and inequality, the sociology of education, and student-centered pedagogy.

Prof Hunts is my favorite professor I've ever had! The class I took was insanely interesting and I am actually very sad that it's over. The class made you think, so if you're taking it for an easy pass, it's probably not the best idea. She's really amazing.
